While Eastman may have been bluffing about having such insight, the Times report came the same day the Washington Post reported that the Jan. 6 committee had recently obtained email correspondences between Eastman and Virginia “ Ginni” Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and conservative activist who was involved in efforts to overthrow the election. The contents of the emails remain unclear, but they “show that Thomas’s efforts to overturn the election were more extensive than previously known,” according to the Post.
Previous reports of Ginni Thomas’s post-election activities have even prompted calls for Justice Thomas to recuse himself from such cases, but the Jan. 6 committee had reportedly not previously pursued an interview with Ginni Thomas. These emails have apparently prompted a reconsideration, as the committee’s members and staff reportedly debated whether to use their public hearings to explore her involvement, the Post reported Wednesday.
